TRACK TEAM SCORES SIX POINTS AS BEARS WIN

FIELD EVENT STRENGTH CAUSES CALIFORNIA'S VICTORY

While the University track team, winning third in the shot put, fourth in the javelin, and fifth in the discus, was collecting six points for eleventh place in the forty-seventh annual intercollegiate meet Saturday, the California athletes gathered a total of 39 1-2 points, only three of which were won on the track, thereby taking for the third consecutive year the title from all the eastern competitors. Princeton, with 33 points, was second best, while the Yale team, which won ten points less than the Tigers, took third place from Pennsylvania by a half-point margin. Following Pennsylvania, and leading the University squad, came in order Cornell, Penn State, Syracuse, Johns Hopkins, Georgetown, and Dartmouth.

The outstanding performance for the Crimson Saturday, was Greenidge's 181 foot 7 1-2 inch javelin throw, which gave him third place and establishes a new College record. The former mark, which Greenidge hung up in the Princeton meet last week was 180 feet 6 inches. Storrs of Yale, hurling the spear only 11 inches short of the 200-foot mark, won the event and established a new intercollegiate record. Eastman, making the best heave of his career with the 16-pound shot, won fourth place in that event with a mark of 45 feet 1-2 inch. Although falling short of the distance which he reached in the dual meet a week ago Saturday, Hills of Princeton, hurling the iron ball 47 feet 8 3-4 inches, carried off first place. Carpenter, the only other University point winner, placed fifth in the discus event with a throw of 131 feet 9 inches, adding one foot to the College record which he established in the Princeton dual meet.

The most serious set-back to Crimson supporters Saturday was the failure of Captain Burke to place in either the half or the mile runs. In obviously poor condition for the races, the University team's leader was in the ruck in both events. In the two-mile distance also, the points which the Crimson team had counted upon from Lund and Lutz were not forthcoming.

Neufeldt of California, with five points in the discus, four in the javelin, and two in the shot put, was the high individual scorer of the meet. Although he falled to better his 181 foot 6 1-2 inch-hammer throw of Friday, Tootell of Bowdoin, was one of the outstanding performers of the meet, as was Comins of Yale, who broad jumped 24 feet 4 inches. Woodring of Syracuse placing first in the 440-yard and second in the 220-yard runs, and Taylor of Princeton, winning the low hurdle race, and following Woodring across the line in the quarter, each contributed nine points to his team's total.
