Robert Gray Allen '26, of Andover, was yesterday afternoon elected captain of the Freshman track team by those members of the squad who made the trip to Andover or to Philadelphia Saturday. Allen, who prepared at Andover and was a member of the school track squad there for three seasons, captaining it last year, also led the Freshman relay team which this winter won the intercollegiate championship in New York and broke the triangular meet record for the first-year relay race when it defeated Cornell and Dartmouth.
This afternoon at 4 o'clock time trials will be held to determine the Freshmen who will run in the hurdles and dashes against Exeter on Saturday. There will be three first-year men in each of the sprints, and two in each of the hurdle races. The rest of the squad of about 30 men who will make the Exeter trip will be selected later in the week.
Tomorrow and Wednesday trials will be held to determine the University participants in the meet Saturday with M. I. T. on Soldiers Field. This is the first dual meet for the Crimson team this spring, and a large number of men will undoubtedly be sent into the events, to give the coaches an opportunity to see what the members of the squad can do under competitive conditions. It is probable that Captain Burke, who last year ran mostly in the mile, will Saturday take part in the quarter and half mile races, and will continue in these events during the rest of the season. Saturday's meet will be the second for Technology, the Engineers having administered a decisive defeat to the University of Maine in Orono, Maine.
