The annual spring clothing drive of Phillips Brooks House will begin Monday and will last four days, the final collection being made on Thursday afternoon. Collectors for the drive are being selected, and they will soon be notified of their appointment and the district in which they will serve. R. P. Bullard '24 is chairman of the committee which is in charge of this year's collection.
The articles which will be especially sought this year include old overcoats, suits, hats, shoes, and shirts. Arrangements have been made by the committee to have the collection before the spring recess because it feels that much clothing, which can be of great use to the charities among which the articles obtained in the drive are divided, would be thrown away by students if this opportunity for riding themselves of clothings no longer desired were not given.
Special Effort to Secure Books
A special attempt will be made to secure a large number of volumes of a general type in addition to the textbooks, which are annually collected. The latter will go to the loan library of Phillips Brooks House, while the former will, with the volumes which the Widener Library will donate, comprise the University's part in the state-wide drive which is to be made next week for books for the American Merchant Marine Library Association. This body aims to place a library of about 80 volumes on each American merchant ship, and will try to collect at least 100,000 books during the drive. For its purpose, the most useful works are in the fields of flatiron, history, biography, travel, marine engineering, seamanship, and navigation, as well as books on English and citizenship.
