Mass. Agricultural Nine Makes Vain But Courageous Attempt at Comeback-- Final Score Is 13 to 7

Piling up eight runs in the first two innings and knocking one patcher from the box, the University baseball team paved the way for a 13-7 victory over the Massachusetts Agricultural nine at Soldiers Field on Saturday afternoon. With Brunner replacing Holley on the mound, the visitors made a courageous attempt at a comeback for four innings but late in the sixth the team broke under the strain and a series of errors brought the Crimson three more runs.

Cordingley, starting his first game in the box, allowed 11 hits but they were well scattered, and this fact coupled with ten strike outs and the University's consistent fielding gave the Aggies but few chances for an effective rally.

The visitors opened the scoring in the first inning when Sargent got to first on a single, advanced to third on Cahill's hit, and came home after Clark had caught a long fly in center field. But the Crimson was not long in overcoming this lead as its answering salvo was aided by two opportune errors. Clark, the first man up, was walked and reached home on a hit by Gordon which was fumbled in right field. A left field fly by Jenkins resulted in an error and Gordon had time to cross the plate for the second count. The scoring was continued in the second inning when Larrabee was sent to second on another error in left field. A passed ball gave him plenty of time to get to third and a moment later he and Cordingley, who had walked, came home on a clean right field hit by Gordon. Jenkins followed with a single, scoring Gordon, and he himself came home when Owen pounded out a long homer between left and center. Temple had just recovered it as Owen had passed third. With six runs scored and no outs, Coach Collins sent in Brunner, who effectively brought an end to the scoring.

The visitors made an immediate attempt to cut down the lead and brought in three runs in their next trip to the plate on three hits and an error by Hammond.
