THE DIARY OF A DANGEROUS MAN

Oct. 23. A dismal day. Even the sun balks at smiling on this puppets' college with its box dormitories set up about its crazy-quilt campus, and its infant incubators down by the river. There is symbolism in those twin chimneys of the capitalist power plant. Some day they will fall through the feeding troughs of Smith Halls as through egg-powder, and with them this whole idea-starved society will come crashing to the ground.

All morning I have been trying to think, and I find nothing. The task before me would obliterate a weaker man. It is supremely hard to convince the rest of the world that everything is wrong, and the worst of it is they don't know it!

Oct. 25. By boarding a street-car during the rush-hours, I have found it possible to avoid the conductor's eye and thus arrive free in Boston, then, by coming forward boldly and demanding a transfer, it is equally easy to obtain return passage to Cambridge.

I did this three times today to show my contempt for the flimsy contrivances of this senile civilization.

Oct. 26. Stood on the Harvard Bridge and watched the crews below rowing their hearts out in a steady drizzle. Youthful optimists! Little do they know that they are squandering the best of their strength, -pawns in a game to divert the beefy-minds of plethoric bank-presidents.

Oct. 28. To confirm my worst suspicions that this place is nothing better than a hotbed of predigested propaganda, this afternoon I attended a lecture in Sever Hall. It was absolutely inconceivable! Here was a room packed to the sagging ceiling (in fact, I succeeded in getting a seat only in the confusion after an old lady had fainted and they had carried her out) and for an hour a hired European lecturer talked on "Esoteric Symbolism in the later Byzantine schools". This, while humanity hangs on the brink of utter chaos!

I was able to get back to my room dry-shod because, luckily enough, I discovered that the man in front of me had placed his overshoes under his seat.

When transcribing his term papers,

He would put them in as shapers,

But, in writing, was loquacious,
