Salem Exonerated

To the Editor of the CRIMSON:

In an editorial of the CRIMSON for Friday, March 16, there is reference made to the burning of witches in Salem. This is not the case. They were hanged. The legend that they were burned is very widespread, and the knowledge that one is from Salem always elicits the reply: "O, that's where they burned the witches!" It is bad enough to have put the unfortunates out of the way anyhow, without being charged with burning them. This story is one that will be met with at every turn, and which should be as often contradicted. MALCOLM B. JONES '24.
