A new theory regarding the electronic construction of atoms was explained by Professor Sommerfeld of the University of Munich before an audience of over 200 members of the University in the Jefferson Physical Laboratory yesterday afternoon in his lecture on "Atomic Models".
Professor Sommerfeld first described the Rutherford idea of the structure of the atom following which he compared the atom to the stellar and solar system. He pointed out that, in general, material that is amassed is qualitative rather than quantitative except in the cases of hydrogen and helium.
Today in the large lecture room of the Physical Laboratory Professor Sommerfeld will continue his discourse on theoretical physics by describing "Quantum Conditions" at 4.30 o'clock.
