WINNING DEBATER UPHOLDS FRENCH STAND ON DEBTS

E. A. Smith '25 Earns Pasteur Medal in Justifying Collection of Reparations From Germany--M. P. Lichauco '23 Receives Honorable Mention

E. A. Smith '25 won the Pasteur debate last night in presenting the affirmative side of the subject: "Resolved: that France is justified in her present policy of collecting reparations from Germany". M. P. Lichauco '23, also arguing for the affirmative, was awarded honorable mention by the judges.

"France is morally and economically justified in her claims", said Smith and backed up his statement by three strong arguments. In the first place he stated that France had put her shoulder to the wheel and had done seven times the reconstruction work of Germany: secondly, that Germany, the aggressor in the war, had not done her share in their reconstruction; and, lastly, that Germany can pay from an economic standpoint.
