The University basketball team slipped into a last minute defeat at the hands of the Dartmouth basketball team by a score of 49-37 Saturday night. The game at Hanover, N. H., constituted the second loss of the season of the Crimson quintet.
The Crimson quintet was leading at half-time 23-20 due to the consistent foul shooting of Captain Gordon and the field goal shooting of Lowenthal. In the second half the Green five came back with a spurt and after several series of baskets by both teams, Millar and Captain Cullen of Dartmouth each placed a field goal, which gave the Green the lead. The Crimson made several rallies to overcome the lead that the Hanover team then began to pile up. Captain Gordon twisted his ankle in a mixup under the opponents' goal but resumed play shortly afterwards.
Cullen scored 35 points for his team, missing only two of 25 free-throw attempts. The Crimson pressed the Green several times and it was not until the last few minutes of play that the spectators were sure of a Dartmouth victory.
The summary: Score, Dartmouth 49, University 37. Goals from floor, Cullen 6, Goldstein, Moore 2, Friedman, Watkins, Millar 2, Gordon 4, Lowenthal 3, Miller 2, Samborski, Black, Rudofsky. Goals on free tries, Cullen 23, Gordon 8, McLeish 5.
