An unexpectedly effective attack in the first period of the Harvard-Yale soccer game on Soldiers Field yesterday afternoon scored four goals and clinched the contest for the Blue. The Crimson counter attack in the second half netted but one tally, which with Wright's goal in the first half brought the final score to 4-2 in Yale's favor.
Aided greatly by the wind, the Eli forwards carried the ball into Crimson territory form the start of the game and sent it into the net twice within ten minutes. Milliken headed in a corner kick for the first tally and Ferry rolled the ball into the net a few minutes later.
A Crimson rally at this point came very near resulting in a score when Lamont's kick hit the goal post. Finally, about ten minutes later a series of long Basses from Brooks to Eldridge to Lamont to Wright took the ball to within scoring distance again, Wright kicking it into the net. Two more Yale scores followed, however, before the end of the period.
In the second half with the wind in their favor, the Crimson players held the ball in Blue territory almost continuously, but they could score only a single goal. About six minutes after the whistle Lamont headed in a side pass from Eldridge, after which the Yale defense tightened and held the Crimson forwards scoreless for the rest of the game.
The line-up was as follows: Scores, Wright, Lamont, Ferry, Wallace, Milliken 2. Substitutions, Dorman for Wright, Gaston for Brooks, Hand for Gibbs.
