The teams lined up as follows: FIRST PERIOD The Harvard team appeared on the field with three foot numerals on backs. Captains Mallory and Hubbard wade to center of field for toss. Lee at quarter for Harvard. Mallory won the toss and chose the north goal. Eastman kicked off for Harvard Richeson on 10 yard ran back to 25 yard line. Neale punted to Harvard's 40 yard line. The ball was fumbled and recovered by Dillon. Yale's ball on 35 yard line. Lee fumbled the kick. Eckart was injured and replaced by Esselstyn. A forward pass from Neale to Bingham failed to be completed and Neale failed through the line. With third down and nine to go, a 20 yard run by Neale carried the ball around left end to 20 yard line. Pond fumbled but recovered, losing five yards. Neale Fumbles Twice Neale fumbled and lost five yards around right end, putting the ball on the 23 yard line. Yale then opened out its formation and a long forward pass. Neale to Pond, grounded. Harvard was then penalized 15 yards for rough play. With the ball on the 15 yard line. Neale fumbled and livans recovered on the 28 yard line. Hammond immediately punted to Yale's 32 yard line and the situation was saved. Neale immediately punted back to Harvard's 10 yard line. Harvard's ball on her 15 yard line. Cheek in line plunge gained one yard and then Hammond punted to 50 yard line. Pond gained three yards through the line, and then Neale kicked over the goal line. The ball was taken out to the 20 yard line and Hammond punted to Richeson, who recovered the ball on the 40 yard line and was tackled by Eastmon. Pond went through the line for one yard, and Neale kicked back to the 20 yard line. Cheek makes five yards on a line play and Hammond punts to Yale's 35 yard line. Harvard Shows New Play Neale kicked to 30 yard line and Lee fumbled but recovered. Lee carrying the ball went through line for 15 yds. This was evidently the first of Harvard's mystery plays. Hammond kicked to Yale's 12 yard line and Neale kicked to center of field. Cheek failed to gain around right end but Yale was penalized five yards for offside on the next play. Hammond took the ball around right end for four yards and Cheek made a yard through left tackle. With third down and five yards to go, Hammond kicked to Yale's 20 yard line. Yale's ball. Pond made two yards around right end. The quarter ended with the ball on Yale's 18 yard line. The ball was carried to the other end of the field to a fairly dry spot, while the two teams mopped the mud from their faces. With the exception of Lee's 15 yard run neither team had been able to display its new formations. On account of the rain and mud the game had degenerated into a punting duel. SECOND PERIOD.
