Favorable Satire

Were Barnum alive today he would find great comfort in those brimming souls who canvassed the College of late vending blazing banners on which is writ that he who runs may read, "To Hell With Harvard." Some one has either a rather overwhelming sense of humor coupled with a genius for economics, or no sense of humor with an uncanny instinct for cash.

The insult to our sister University is clear, but the chagrin grows to dismay at the thought of what may be offered by those undergraduates who dislike Princeton. And when the enemies of Vassar take to interior decoration we must look to our shame. Furthermore such an insidious attack is scarcely fair to our friends at Cambridge. The shock to their morale when they see room after room defiantly denouncing their beloved Aims Mater will not quickly be forgotten. They will realize suddenly that we are no longer bound by the ordinary inhibitions and fears: it is simply that Yale doesn't care. The virility of the thing, the inherent mauliness will take them unawares. When the system is really established every sort of reform may be aided by it. If an undergraduate is put on probation he will need only to buy a pennant saying "Nasty Old Dean," or some such other particularly aggravating and biting phonic. Then there will be an end to paternalism. The Yale News.
