MILITARY GUARDS IN STADIUM VIOLATE NO LAW, SAYS WILSON

Letter to District Attorney O'Brien Upholds Athletic Association

That the Athletic Association is well within its rights in permitting soldiers carrying sidearms to police the Stadium at football games, is the opinion of Police Commissioner H. A. Wilson. In a letter to District Attorney T. C. O'Brien, who objects to the military guards on the ground that they have no authority to make arrests, Mr. Wilson declares that the statute cited applies only to case of public disorder, and not to peaceful athletic contests.

Quite the opposite conclusions were reached at the Thursday conference between the District Attorney and Major F. W. Moore '93, graduate manager of University Athletics. It was agreed that the soldiers should continue their duties as ushers, but should not wear side arms.
