Injuries will seriously handicap the Freshman basketball team this evening when in encounters the Tufts yearlings in the Goddard Gymnasium at 7.30 o'clcok. J. A. Reed, who was the outstanding player in the M. I. T. and Y. M. C. A. games, is out of the line-up indefinitely with a torn muscle in his side. Rauh, who has played briefly in every game to date, will take his place at center. The team, during the past week, has been drilled incessantly on the five-man defence which was so effective against the M. I. T. quintet last Wednesday, and Coach Chase has also developed the four-man attack to a high degree of perfection.
Comparative scores would indicate a win for the Crimson, since its score against the M. I. T. 1926 team was 28-3, whereas Tufts defeated the same men by only 27-18.
Tufts, however, has a collection of former stars in its line-up. Captain Dowson is the best scorer on the team, registering seven baskets out of 17 in one game, and five out of nine in another, and is equally good on offence and defence. Schenfield is a former New Haven High School player and is a dependable shot. Dowson will shoot the fouls.
Jones will play his first official game as captain of the yearling team tonight. He was elected to this position just before the game with team B last Friday. With Reed out of the line-up, most of the scoring burden will fall on Jones and Smith. The latter registered six out of 11 baskets in the game with the Boston Y. M. C. A., and will shoot the fouls tonight.
