THREE COMPETITIONS FOR CRIMSON START TONIGHT

Heads of Various Departments Will Outline Work Required--Elections Based on Ability Displayed and Potential Quality as Editor

This evening at 7 o'clock candidates for the news, editorial, and photographic departments of the CRIMSON will report at the Crimson Building, 14 Plympton street. At that time the heads of the respective departments will outline to the competitors the details of the work. The competitions will last approximately 12 weeks.

The news competition is open only to Sophomores. Candidates will gather and write for publication the University news. Previous experience is not necessary to qualify. This competition affords men an unexcelled opportunity to meet prominent men in the University and to become acquainted with University activities. In addition, candidates will be expected to secure interviews from prominent men on subjects of outside interest. Election of candidates will be based on the amount of news which they have had published and on their qualifications as editors.

The photographic competition is open only to Sophomores. The work consists in taking pictures of University activities; candidates are ranked on the number of pictures printed in the fortnightly pictorial supplement, and on their efficiency in the dark room. The CRIMSON has a completely equipped dark room available for developing and printing work. Previous experience is not essential in this competition.

The editorial competition is open only to Juniors. During the first part of the competition, two editorials a week will be required; later the number will be increased. From time to time there will be conferences with Boston editorial writers and newspaper men, as well as members of the Faculty, who will give criticisms of editorials published.
