CROSS-COUNTRY SEASON WILL OPEN TUESDAY

Strong Nucleus From 1921 Team--Captain H. L. Pratt '23 and W. J. Burke '23 Most Formidable--Five Meets Are on 1922 Schedule

The University's 1922 cross-country season will open next Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock when candidates for both the Freshman and University teams will hold a meeting in the Locker Building. At this meeting plans will be discussed and a general outline of the work given.

Captain H. L. Pratt '23 will have a strong nucleus on which to build the 1922 squad. W. J. Burke '23, captain-elect of the 1923 track team, will be the Crimson's greatest threat against the Yale and Princeton harriers. Burke, who won sensational victories last spring in the mile and 880-yard runs against the Blue, is in fine condition this fall. Last year he ran second to Douglas in the cross-country meet at New Haven.

Other men who placed last fall were Captain Pratt, who ran eighth, J. U. Harris '24, tenth, A. L. Coburn '24, thirteenth, and R. A. Lutz '23, fourteenth. All of these men will be available this fall except Harris, who probably will not be able to run.

In addition Campbell Newhall '24, who won his "H" last spring in the half-mile against Yale, will be on hand. Among the most promising of the men from last year's Freshman team are R. B. Cutcheon and W. L. Chapin.

The 1922 cross-country schedule will be as follows:
