A high wind again prevented the proposed, final elimination race for class crews scheduled for yesterday afternoon. With the disastrous experience of Tuesday afternoon, when several boats were swamped, in mind, and with no sign of any abatement of the rough water in the Basin, Coach Brown called off the race at 7 o'clock and took his six eights out for a short practice in racing starts and sprints over the upstream course.
Unless the wind proves too strong again today the race will be held late in the afternoon. The annual class crew contest with Yale is scheduled for May 20 and, with only two days left for preparation, the coaches have been disappointed by the delay in choosing the crew.
The two University eights had a long work-out, rowing up the river as far as possible and then down as far as the Union Boat Club. Dr. Howe seemed quite satisfied with the showing of both eights, which will meet M. I. T. on Saturday.
Coach Bert Haines' first Freshman four-oared crew lost a close race to Noble and Greenough yesterday afternoon over the half-mile course upstream.
