As a further step in the work of elimination and experimentation which is part of the regular program for rowing until the final crews are picked, Dr. Howe yesterday slightly changed the personnel of the three eights which have been retained. His purpose is the gather together practically the entire 1924 Freshman crew, whose time records of last year are known, and race this crew against the others, more or less in the function of pace-setter. The race will be held this afternoon and will be for the mile distance.
The Freshman crews last year made some very good time records and the race today should offer a valuable criterion of the progress the crews have made thus, far. Captain Appleton will be back at bow in Crew A, whose seating otherwise remains the same. Chew B is the special 1924 Freshman crew while Crew C is somewhat changed in its arrangement from the seating announced earlier in the week. Dr Howe had all three of these crews out yesterday in the new arrangement in order to get the men accustomed to each other for today's race. With him was the committee, consisting of one graduate coach for each position in the shell.
