Recovering from all early period slump which threatened to end disastrously the Freshman basketball team, after a sharp over-time session, beat the M. I. T. '25 quintet 24-22 at Hemenway Gymnasium Tuesday night.
Only the sound work of Merriam and Middleton, coupled with Captain Samborski's consistent efforts from the foul line served to turn a seemingly hopeless struggle into ultimate victory. Not until the closing moments of a five-minute over-time period did the Crimson yearlings break the deadlock which had held the two teams even for 15 minutes, when King edged in the winning score two seconds before the bell.
At the end of the half Coach Tolbert's players held the lead by a scant one point margin, only to have it vanish under a determined red and grey comeback early in the second session. The visitors' attack, led by the sensational Eager began to function with telling effect, and the gap between the two scores increased steadily till at mid-period the Engineers enjoyed a commanding advantage. At this point, with ten minutes to spare began a rally which put the two fives on an even basis by the end of the game. Four of the five minutes of the over-time period brought only one point apiece, until King's score.
