DARTMOUTH TAKES LEAD FROM CRIMSON FIVE AND WINS CLOSE GAME 28-20

CULLEN TALLIES 12 TIMES FOR GREEN ON FOULS

Eight points was the slender margin of victory Saturday evening when the Green basketball team at the close of the Dartmouth winter carnival downed Coach Wachter's quintet 28-20. But though defeated, the Crimson five played the best game it has displayed so far, bettering by far the style shown in the second Worcester Tech contest of two weeks ago. Until the middle of the first period Harvard held the lead and until the final seconds of play the victor's margin was never more than two or three points.

On both sides, team-work was the outstanding feature of the entire contest, the University floor-work being especially noteworthy. Perhaps the best individual performance was the foul shooting of Cullen of the Green five who tallied 12 times out of 16 chances while Captain McLeish ran second on eight scores with the same number of chances. In spite of the fact that this unusually large number of 32 fouls was called, the game was rougher than the usual contest at Hemenway due to the extremely close guarding employed by both sides.

University Scores First

Harvard was the first to score in the opening period when Gordon dropped in a tally from scrimmage a few moments after the whistle. The reliable Cullen evened up a second later by two foul shots in quick succession, however, only to be headed again by Gordon from the floor. In this way the University kept the lead until about the middle of the period when Dartmouth came up never again to be headed, at half time the count standing 16-11 for the Green. At the beginning of the second half, the University staged a desperate rally but though the team climbed within a point of the Green at one time, it could not manage to oust them from a commanding lead.
