In the Architectural Schools competition between the University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Boston Architectural Club all three awards have been made to University competitors, the first prize of $125 going to Denison Bingham Hull 3S. A. of Chicago, III, and honorable mention to S. R. McCandless 3S. A. and R. W. Hammett 1S. A.

The competition which was announced this fall by the Department of Architecture of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology called for a plan of a model law school building and was open to all students or graduates of not more than five years standing of the Architectural Schools of the University and M. I. T. and to members of the Boston Architectural Club.

The plan specified was of monumental character with two auditoriums holding two hundred students each and one large auditorium holding five hundred. On the second floor a great reading room for 400 students and a large stack room receiving the best possible daylight were required as well as several research libraries.

Over thirty complete plans were submitted to the jury which was made up of men from all three schools. The Architectural Schools hope to hold three competitions annually.

Winning Plan Excellent

The winning plan was an excellent example of modern architecture. On the ground floor Hull's plans suggested a large, highly decorated vestibule connecting the three required auditoriums opening out on several courts and four small lecture rooms, each seating about fifty students. In the rear of the building space was provided for the school offices. Up stairs beside the library and reading room were several exhibition rooms for documents of historical interest.
