Thirty-five men reported at Soldiers Field yesterday afternoon for the first day of fall baseball practice, and, after a short talk, Coach J. J. Slattery picked out two teams for a practice game.
Team A with the more experienced men in the line-up scored three runs in the first inning but Team B was able to make up for one of the tallies when G. T. Hayes Unc., a transfer from Hendrix College, Arkansas, came home on an overthrow to second.
E. S. Brown '23, who pitched several air-tight games for the seconds last spring started on the mound while L. C. Larrabee '24, substitute catcher on the 1923 squad, occupied his old position behind the bat. D. F. Thayer '23, the only letter man who was able to report, filled the center field position on Team A.
After the first three innings Coach Slattery sent in a large number of substitutes making up two new teams. E. E. Herrmann '25, pitcher on the 1925 Freshman nine, was in the box. L. W. Gibb '25, J. E. Toulmin '25 and A. D. Hoffman '25, all members of the yearling squad, were in the line-up of Team A, while R. P. Bullard '24, Hayes, F. S. Hill '24, R. P. Rose '23, J. J. H. Kerr '25, E. A. Straw '25, and R. G. Norris '24 were on the opposing team.
