Two Loubat Prizes, totaling $1400, are to be awarded at Commencement this year by Columbia University, for the best published work on North America.
These prizes, which are open to any one, whether connected with Columbia or not, have been awarded quinquennially, since 1898 for "the best work printed and published in the English language on the history, geography, archaeology, ethnology, philology, or numismatics of North America". The next award is to be in 1923, and will consist of one prize of $1000 and one of $400. Members of the graduate schools of the University whose work lies within the above field should be especially interested in the prizes.
The judges of the competition will be:
William Milligan Sloane, Seth Low Professor of History in Columba University.
Alfred L. Kroeber, Professor of Anthropology and Curator of the Anthropological Museum, of the University of California.
St. George Leakin Sioussat, Professor of American History in the University of Pennsylvania.
Successful competitors will be expected to donate five copies of the winning work to Columbia University. Inquiries and books should be addressed to the Secretary of Columbia University, New York City.
