Through the generosity of Mr. Richard Sears '91, a prize has been offered for meritorious work in the Division of History, Government and Economics. The topic for this year's essay is as follows: Are Trade Unions a benefit or detriment at the present time to Labor?

Competition is open to all four classes of undergraduates in the University, and a prize of $100 is offered, with a secondary prize of $25 for the contribution next in grade of excellence. There is no definite limit as to length, but it is expected that the substance of the dissertation may be delivered within a compass of twenty minutes. The papers submitted must be delivered to Professor William Z. Ripley, at the Department of Economics, on or before March 11. Thereafter a few of the best of them will be read as a discussion in the presence of the judges selected.
