VISCOUNT BRYCE FIRST OF UNION LECTURERS

Was British Ambassador to U. S. From 1907 to 1913-President Lowell to Preside at Meeting Which Is Open to All Members of University

Viscount Bryce, distinguished British statesman and man of letters, will give the opening lecture of the year at the Union tomorrow evening at 8 o'clock. President Lowell will preside at the meeting, which will be open to all members of the University. While in Cambridge Viscount Bryce will be the guest of President Lowell and will be entertained at dinner by the President before the lecture.

Viscount Bryce, who was British Ambassador to the United States from 1907 to 1913, has an international reputation as the author of "The American Commonwealth" and other works mainly in the field of political science. He came to the United States this summer to give a course of lectures at the Institute of Politics at Williams College.

Because Viscount Bryce's lecture has been set for Tuesday, the annual meeting of welcome to Freshmen, usually held on the first Tuesday after the opening of the College year, has been postponed until Wednesday night, September 28. This meeting will also be held at the Union.
