Major Goetz of the Military Science Department has received the following communication from the commanding officer of the Field Artillery summer camp to be held at Camp Knox, Kentucky, from June 16 to July 26:
"A new area has been assigned to the Field Artillery students, nearer to the area occupied by the 81st Field Artillery, which will furnish the school troops, horses, and equipment for instruction, and to the firing points on the Artillery Range. Within the area is a Knights of Columbus Building, which will be furnished for writing and recreation, a Post Exchange, to be operated by the Camp Exchange Officer, and each battery will have a bar- rack floor devoted to recreational purposes.
"The camp athletic officer has arranged a schedule of inter-Battery athletics, to include a battery baseball league, boxing and wrestling tournament, a track and field meet, to be followed by a dual meet with the Infantry R. O. T. C. camp, and a final track meet for both camps for individual honors. Several tennis courts will be available for use by Field Artillery students.
Regular Bands to Play
"Bands from the regular regiments of Field Artillery stationed at Knox will play for R. O. T. C. ceremonies, will give concerts in the area, and will furnish orchestras for the R. O. T. C. "Hops" at the Officers' Club and at the Knights of Columbus Building."
The communication goes on to state that the Officers' Club at the camp is offering the use of its building upon certain occasions to the students; that the Artillery and Pistol ranges have been improved, and announces that a new Liberty Theatre has been opened at the camp.
An air service flight squadron and observation balloon are to be available for adjustment of fire from the air. Last summer nearly all students in the Advanced courses had an opportunity to observe firing on the range from the balloon, and this year it is hoped to extend the training to airplanes as well.
