Slamming out a total of twenty-one hits, with extra-base wallops freely distributed, the University baseball nine proved itself well-tuned for the Yale series by defeating Tufts on Saturday by an 11-4 score. Goode twirled for five innings and except for the second inning allowed few men to reach first base. In the second Tufts made her first three runs by following a base on balls with two triples and a double. Bigelow made a creditable debut in the last four innings by holding Tufts to three hits and one run. Behind the pitchers the Crimson players put up a first class defense, a slight misplay by Owen being the only check to perfect fielding.
At bat the Crimson team seemed able to hit anything and they treated the offerings of the three Tufts pitchers alike. Lincoln led the team in the number of hits, with four out of six times at bat, Hallock registered a triple, a double, and a single, and Murphy managed to add a triple to his two singles. Owen and Crocker each drove out long line-drive home-runs, and Emmons and Conlon made two singles apiece. Bigelow alone went hitless.
Tufts' big inning came in the third, when Weafer drew a pass and White then doubled to left field. Kirshstein scored both with a long triple to left field and tallied when Roche followed with a three-ply hit to right.
The University started the scoring in the opening inning by a volley of terrific hits and chalked up four runs. In the fourth, fifth, and seventh each, one run was scored, and two each in the sixth and eighth.
