FRESHMEN TRAIL EXETER IN FIRST SPRING MEET

Schoolboys Net 73 1-2 Points to 1924 Team's 34 1-2--Crimson Wins First Place in Both Hurdle Events and in High and Broad Jump

Although displaying unexpected strength in the hurdles and jumps and showing power in the sprints, the 1924 track team lost to Exeter Saturday 73 1-2 to 34 1-2 in the first meet of the spring season. The Freshmen carried off first places in the 120-yard high hurdles and the 220-yard high hurdles, and in both the high and broad-jumps. In the three sprints the 1924 won two seconds and two thirds, but in the distance runs and in the weight and polevault events the New Hampshire schoolboys made practically a clean sweep.

Score in Hurdles

R. H. Sears and W. J. Revcroft of the Freshman team won by large margins in the high and low hurdles respectively the nearest Exeter runner being seven yards in the rear in each event. The two other 1924 first-place winners were Malcolm Morse and A. W. Dole, the for mer in the high-jump and the latter in the broad. In the 100 and 220-yard dashes H. W. Davis was the chief Freshman performer, pitted against Lundell and Norton, two of the fastest dast men in preparatory school ranks. Davis trailed both of these men in the 100, taking third place; while in the 220 he was second. T. W. Norris ran a plucky race for the Crimson in the quarter, leading Noring of Exeter till the home stretch. Here the latter passed Norris only with great difficult, the Crimson runner finishing a close second.

Did Not Place in Half-Mile

The Freshman team did not place in the half-mile run, although J. M. Jutte made a valiant effort in the last fifty yards, losing third place to Reed of Exeter by inches. Boettcher of Excter won this event. In the mile Corliss Lamont captured third for the Crimson, trailing Watters and Captain Jones of Exeter. Compbell Newhall also made a good showing in this distance, worrying and tiring the opposing runners by his fast pace.
