At a meeting held at 8 o'clock yesterday evening in the John Knowles Paine Concert Hall of the Music Building in commemoration of the 600th anniversary of Dante's death. Professor C. H. Grandgent '83, of the Romance Language Department of the University, delivered a most eloquent address on the genius of Dante.
"In our modern age," said Professor Grandaunt, "with all its inventions and material benefits to mankind, we are too likely to look into the past as into a dark night. But the past ages have made their contributions, and none so abundantly as the Renaissance. Of the great social, intellectual and spiritual influences of this splendid time our age has come to recognize Daute as the one adequate representative."
Before Professor Grandsent spoke the Pierian Sodality played Meyerbeer's "Coronation March," from "Le Prophet" Rinet's and Strube's "Fair Harvard."
