For anyone who has carefully studied President Harding's inaugural address, there is no escaping the strong current of optimism which pervades it. Facing stupendous tasks the attitude of the administration is none the less one of cool determination to direct the nation's affairs according to our well-tested traditions. No short cuts, no untried methods, no radical steps will mark the term of the Republican party. "With malice toward none, with charity for all," we shall endeavor of steer a straight course between the Scylla of "splendid isolation" and the Charybdis of "entangling alliances." It is with faith in our inheritance and belief in the ability of the American people to press onward toward the mark of their high calling that President Harding takes up the reins of government.
