A WELCOME REVIVAL

The news that a joint invitation is extended by Harvard and Yale to the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge for a track meet here next June will be received with applause. Not since 1911 have these four ancient institutions met in competition on the cinder path; and although the Americans have three times journeyed to London, it is just twenty years since their English rivals have visited the United States.

The consistently high standard maintained by the British athletes in international sports leaves no question as to their prowess on the track. That Oxford and Cambridge are very evenly matched is demonstrated by the results of their annual dual meet which this year ended in a draw. Added significance to the proposed contest may be found in the fact that the representatives of each nation have been twice victorious and that this would be the fifth event of its kind. Sportsmen will welcome the invitation to Great Britain in the hope that it will meet with speedy acceptance.
