With only three games left on its schedule the University basketball team is preparing to offset the late defeats by improved playing and increased fighting spirit. With the exception of Tolbert, who is unavailable for the remainder of the season, the players injured at one time or another are ready to fill their old places again. This evening at 8 o'clock, the rejuvenated five will test its strength against the Rhode Island State College team in Hemenway Gymnasium; Friday the scrapping Brown team will travel up from Providence for the return game, and next Monday the season will close, when the Center College five comes up from Kentucky with its array of football stars.
Rhode Island State is reputed to have only a fair team, although its teamwork and the individual shooting of the men has been of high class. Its list of defeats exceeds its victories, but in its last game, against Northeastern College the team was at its best, winning easily.
McLeish and Fitts Forwards
Coach Wachter has chosen McLeish to team up with Fitts at forward; McLeish has improved remarkably the last two weeks, and in the Springfield game he was high scorer for the team. Although weak in receiving passes, he is fast, shifty, and has an accurate aim for baskets. Tyson has recovered his early season form at center, and his injured ankles are now recovered. Feiring and Chase compose the defense, although the former needs practice to bring him to the level of the others. As a whole, the team has improved remarkably in team work and spirit, even considering the three defeats last week. The weakness shown at Trinity of the player's inability to cover their opponents has been eliminated, and also the former tendency of a man to hold the ball too long is much less.
