ELI HOCKEY SEPTET, POWERLESS BEFORE CRIMSON TEAM-WORK, OVERWHELMED 7-0

Cages Three of University's Goals--Carson and Bulkley Yale Bulwarks

PHILADELPHIA, PA., February 6:--Harvard 7, Yale 0. That is how the score stood at the close of 45 minutes of rapid-fire battling at the Ice Palace in this city last night, and the figures do no more than justice to the superior team-play of the Crimson seven. Captain Bigelow's men, in Possession of the puck fully three-fourths of the time, completely overran the ice, outwitting and outskatting the Blue team.

The individual brilliance of Captain Bigelow, starring on the center ice for the Cambridge outfit, was the feature of the game. The Crimson leader gave an exhibition of clever stick handling and shifty footwork which completely baffled his opponents, showing ability to outflank either Eli wing with ease, to reverse his field, carrom off the boards, and hurdle interference at top speed, Bigelow merited the greatest meed of praise for the victory.

Captain Carson, leaving his regular post at wing for the purpose of stiffening the Yale defense against the University attack, distinguished himself by his aggressive, acrobatic type of play. His work and that of Bulkley, center for the New Haven seven, was the sole redeeming feature of the contest. Both skaters were far above the average of their mates in speed and versatility.

Five members of the University team figured in the scoring, Bigelow alone netting three tallies. Buntin, just recovering from his recent illness, did not seem to shine, though putting up a consistently effective game.

The University captain opened the scoring just six seconds after the bell with a neat snap from scrimmage. Less than two minutes later a pass out by Emmons from the corner gave him an opportunity to drive a second shot past Root, the Yale goal guard. During the twelve-minute scoreless scramble which followed, Yale never had a chance to shoot from nearer than mid-ice, while only the herculean work of the diminutive Captain Carson kept the Blue goal inviolate.

Yale began the second period with the only dangerous threat of the entire contest, when Carson, eluding the Cambridge defense, lifted the puck three yards from the Harvard goal, but Owen and Holmes interfered and the shot went wild.

Harvard followed with a hall of successful drives. Bigelow twisted his way through the Blue team for a goal from under Root's nose. Three minutes later Snelling picked the rubber out of scrimmage for the fourth tally, and within a few seconds Emmons repeated the trick. Half a minute from the close of the period Baker caught a pass from behind the cage for Number Six. With the return of the first line in the third period the University offense was maintained with renewed vigor. Bacon registered a clever score from a mix-up in front of the goal. George Owen, captain of last season's Freshman seven, was the only Crimson player to earn his letter for the first time against Yale, all the other participants having met the Blue on the ice before.
