Communication

A Wider Acquaintance for the Freshman

(The Crimson invites all men in the University to submit signed communications of timely interest. It assumes no responsibility, however, for sentiments expressed under this head and reserves the right to exclude any whose publication would be palpably inappropriate.)

To the Editors of the CRIMSON:

The Freshman Debating Club has for its purpose not only the holding of debates and discussions, but also the bringing together of Freshmen that they may better know and understand each other. In accordance with this latter purpose, the club has decided to hold several get-together meetings for all Freshmen.

The need for such gatherings is obvious. Smith Hall is one world, Standish is another, and Gore yet another. Communication between these is open only to those who participate in class activities. This number at best is relatively few. The result is a deplorable lack of class intimacy and solidarity for which a single smoker and jubilee at the end of the year cannot make up. Informal gatherings every second or third week would do much to remedy this.

The first get-together meeting will probably be held a week from Wednesday, March 2, in Smith Common Room. Excellent Freshman talent has already been found for entertainment, but more is needed. Freshmen who can produce any kind of vaudeville act are asked to get in touch with the writer immediately. We must remember that the success of this plan depends upon the support of each one of us. Every Freshman, whether living in Smith, Standish, or Gore Hall, or at home should attend this meeting March 2. RICHARD S. BOWERS '24,   President Freshman Debating Club,   February 18, 1921.
