Coach Wachter's quintet will meet its second test of the season this evening at 8 o'clock when it lines up against the Bates College five on the Hemenway court.
It is a much weakened team that will represent the University in tonight's battle. Yesterday afternoon Gordon, last year's yearling captain and one of the most promising of this year's crimson candidates, sprained his ankle badly and probably will not be again able, to play until after Christmas. This, coupled with Captain McLeish's injury the day before has necessitated a radical last minute shift in the line-up. Since McLeish and Gordon are the only first string men capable of handling foul shots efficiently, Coach Wachter has found it necessary to bring up Pallo from the second team to one of the forward berths. This player, one of the most brilliant last winter until he was injured in mid-season, is one of the most accurate foul shooters out this fall and being as will a quick passer and an accurate shot should be able to hold up his end of the game this evening. Lowenthal, although ineligible last year, proved an excellent player and will probably be called upon to take ovule the other forward berth, Fitts returning to his old position at center. For this evening's contest at least, Black and Rudofsky have made good at the tow guard berths and will answer the two guard berths and will answer the opening whistle.
Real opposition is expected from the Bates quintet which boasts a team of four of last year's veterans, the only newcomer this year being the center, newcomer this year being the center, who is a Freshman. This is the second time that Bates has met the University, the contest last fall resulting in the 38 to 24 triumph for the Crimson.
Coach Wachter is till dissatisfied with the defensive work of his team and as a result, yesterday's workout was devoted mostly to practice in defensive formations. Following the injury of Gordon a long drill was necessary with the new line-up as yesterday was the last opportunity that the quintet will have to practice together before the contest this evening.
