An important recent addition to the Italian primitives in the Fogg Art Museum is a painting by Fra Angelico, representing the Crucifixion.
This picture was formerly in the Noel Valois collection and was purchased for the Museum from the bequest of Mr. Hervey Edward Wetzel '11, who died in France in October, 1918, while serving with the American Red Cross.
It is a late work and of great beauty and dignity of conception and execution. It is well preserved and is a valuable addition to the paintings by Fra Angelico in this country, two of which are in Boston, one, and early picture at Fenway Court, and one at the Museum of Fine Arts.
