1800 Books for Treasure Room

By the will of the late Frank Eugene Chase '76, dated December 4, 1920, the University has come into possession of Mr. Chase's entire library, numbering about 1800 volumes. Among other books, the gift contained presentation copies of most of the works of Alice Brown, the novelist. These have been placed in the Treasure Room of Widener Library as a foundation for a record collection of first editions of the works of American authors. The only other writer who is at present represented by a record set is Frank Norris, whose complete works were the gift to the University by Mr. Randolph Edgar.
