The University second nine yesterday afternoon broke its winning streak by bowing to the Brown seconds to the tune of 2-0. Hard hitting by the Brunonians and the clever work of Leddy on the mound, who fanned eight batsmen, allowed only three hits and caught three men off second, were responsible for the defeat.
The visitors broke through in the second inning, when Miller reached Russell for a two-base hit, stole third and came in on a single by Merriweather. Russell saved his team for that inning by catching an infield fly and then striking out Gulian.
But in the third frame Wardwell singling, gained home on an infield fly by Cutter.
The scrubs did not threaten once. Nearly every inning was a shutout. The few times that they reached first they were caught on bases by Leddy.
