Yesterday afternoon the Pennsylvania crew which arrived in Cambridge in the morning, had its first workout on the Charles when it rowed to about half a mile below the Harvard bridge, accompanied by Coach Wright in the launch. The men were in excellent, condition, and rowed smoothly in spite of the wind and rough water which they encountered down stream. Their stroke is long in the water, characterized by a reach far to the front and a steady pull-through which drives the shell through the water at an even speed.
The crew averages about 175 pounds in weight, and is well trimmed, the bow man weighing 167 pounds, and the stroke 180. The average height is about 5 feet, 11 1-2 inches.
A change in the line-up of the Harvard second crew was made yesterday, two new men being put in the shell. R. K. Kane '22 went from the third crew to 5 in place of J. N. Borland '21, who was moved to crew C. G. L. Batchelder ocC, is now rowing at number 6 on crew B in place of D. H. Morris '21.
On Monday, Coach Edward Brown will cut his class crew squads to two crews for each class. This is in order to permit closer training for the May regatta. The men who are cut should report to Dr. Paul Withington at the Newell Boathouse at 4 o'clock Monday. At that time club eights which will row in centipedes and octopedes, will be formed, and will start training at once for the May regatta
