Because of the continued cold weather and a frozen field the baseball game with Bowdoin scheduled for this afternoon was called off yesterday after a consultation between Coach Slattery, Captain R W. Emmons, 3d, '20, and Manager A. E. Kirk '20. During the past week of continued cold weather the frost has worked into the unprotected ground, so that whatever the weather this afternoon, the field will be either muddy, in case of a rise in temperature, 'or too hard, in case of continued cold.
The Bowdoin nine was to have arrived last night at 9 o'clock; but early in the afternoon they telegraphed the H. A. A. asking that they be notified if a cancellation was desirable. A telegram was immediately forwarded them, stating that conditions here made it impossible to hold the game. The cancellation of today's game means that the team will start on its southern trip next week with only one outside game, that with New Hampshire State College here on Wednesday. But as the Bowdoin team was composed entirely of new men, and had had even less outdoor practice than the University, the lessened experience which its cancellation means will not be serious for the Crimson nine.
This afternoon if the weather is favorable, the team will, hold batting and fielding practice on Soldiers Field.
