The James A. Shannon Post of the American Legion will be finally formed tonight, when the 400 men who have signed membership application blanks, and any other ex-service men in the University who are interested will meet in the Union at 8 o'clock to elect officers, and to pass upon the by-laws which the provisional committee, appointed by the Acting Commandant, has just drawn up.
According to the by-laws, there shall be two regular meetings of the Post each year, one in October, and one in May, at such time as the executive committee shall determine. Other meetings shall be held as the Post may direct by vote. Ten percent of the total paid up membership shall constitute a quorum. The organization shall further recognize an auxiliary organization to be known as the Women's Auxiliary of the James Shannon Post, No. 247, American Legion, when and if, such an auxiliary shall be established in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of the American Legion.
The by-laws also determine the duties of the officers, and explain that any member belonging to another Post may transfer to the Shannon Post, or, on the other hand, any man who joins the Shannon Post may subsequently transfer to his home post. The committee which has drawn up the by-laws to be submitted this evening, consists of R. B. Perry '97, Chairman, F. H. Brownell, 1G.B., D. F. O'Connell '21, and Dr. Paul Withington '09.
