Colonel Edward L. Logan '98, State Commander of the American Legion, President Lowell, Professor W. B. Munro '99, and Professor Theodore Lyman '97, will speak at a meeting to be held in the Living Room of the Union next Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock to organize the James A. Shannon Post (The Harvard University Post) of the American Legion. Professor Lyman has been appointed the acting commander of the Shannon Post and he will outline plans and announce the definite steps to be taken for the active formation of the University Post. Any additional information may be obtained before the meeting by applying to D. M. Little, Jr., '18, acting secretary of the Shannon Post, at the Union. All former service men connected with the University are urged to attend.
The application for the charter was made by various professors and students of the University, with the suggestion that membership in the Post after its establishment be restricted to persons connected with the University. Col. Logan, however, ruled that no restriction of this sort would be advisable and accordingly the charter was issued without any restrictions as to membership. It is expected that no effort will be made to extend the membership of the post beyond the University in order to avoid any possibility of duplication with other Cambridge posts.
The new post is named in honor of Lieutenant Colonel J. A. Shannon, who commanded the Harvard R. O. T. C. during the summer of 1917 and was later killed in action at Chatel-le-Chery. During his command here Colonel Shannon made himself greatly beloved by the students, and when he left for service overseas he carried the good wishes of the entire University with him.
