Freshmen as a class, are not always the most privileged members of the University. But, when they have the opportunity of hearing President Eliot speak to them personally, they may consider themselves honored. Revered and beloved throughout the world, President Eliot stands as the type of all that is best in the realms of culture and scholarly attainment. The Freshmen, listening to him, will do deference not only to his worldly fame, but also to his position as the greatest Harvard figure within the last century.
