The first scrimmage of the season for the 1924 football players was held yesterday afternoon after the usual stiff training work had been run off. Team A was given the ball in the center of the field and tried a series of line plays as a start-off, but Team B received the ball on downs. A successful forward pass took the ball well down the field, but a second pass was gathered in by a Team A man. The wind favored the first team in the kicking duel which now followed, and left Jenkins in a position to kick a field goal from the 23-yard line.
Returning to the middle of the field, Team A began a slow but steady advance, using only straight line and end run plays. McGhurkey scored the one touchdown after a blocked kick had restored the ball to Team A's possession.
The coaches are evidently sifting the material to get a fighting combination for next Saturday's game with Worcester Academy. Judging from the scrimmage yesterday, it looks as if such a team were fast shaping up. Hamilton played right guard on Team A yesterday, but it is probable that Donovon will return to this position on recovering from an injury.
