COL. GOETZ'S PLACE FILLED TEMPORARILY BY MAJ. MILLER

PLANS EQUITATION CLASS

Major Franklin L. Miller, Field Artillerty, U. S. A., has arrived at the University to take charge of the Military Office during Colonel Goetz's absence and to act as the Colonel's assistant upon his return in the fall. Major Miller was detailed to this University by the War Department from Kansas City, Missouri, where he was Assistant District Inspector of the Reserve Officers' Training Camps.

Major Miller entered the service as a private in February, 1917, and was commissioned as Captan of Cavalry from the first Officers' Training Camp in August of that year. He was transferred as captain of Field Artillery in October, 1917, and served with the 89th Division. Later, he was attached to an independent Cavalry Brigade, and then assigned to the 18th Division in Texas. There he served as commanding officer of the 54th Field Artillery Brigade, and as divisional aviation officer.

In an interview with a CRIMSON reporter yesterday, Major Miller stated that it was part of his plans to conduct a voluntary summer riding class for those who show the disposition to attend. This organization will last through the summer session here, and will be entirely voluntary for the students, in no way compelling attendance in the Field Artillery Unit next fall. Major Miller hopes to advance the instruction in this class to the point of training the students in jumping horses and playing polo. He excepts to leave shortly for Camp Devens where he will select the horses to be used this summer and next winter.
