FRESHMEN AND 2ND VICTORIOUS

Holy Cross 1922 and St. John's School Defeated 5-4 and 6-3.

Both the Freshman and the 2nd baseball teams won their games yesterday. Holy Cross 1922 lost to the Freshman nine yesterday afternoon by a score of 5-4 in a twelve-inning game. Although the Freshmen easily out-batted their opponents fourteen hits to six, they were unable to concentrate their attack enough. H. S. Russell '22 pitched a good game for the Freshmen for nine innings, and was then replaced by J. R. Meehan '22, who lasted the remainder of the contest.

The feature of the game was a long home run, which rolled almost to the Stadium, by Eschmann, the Holy Cross shortstop, when the bases were full. The only runs which Holy Cross scored came in on this hit. L. A. Hallock '22 with four singles, and C. J. Mason '22, with two singles and a triple, were the strongest factors in the offense of the Freshmen.

Seconds Recover From Slump.

In a well-played game the Second University baseball team made a quick recovery from their slump the previous day, and defeated St. John's Preparatory School, 6-3. The team displayed excellent form both at bat and in the field.

H. M. Erb '20 pitched six innings of very fine ball, until he was hit in the last of the sixth by a pitched ball, which broke his nose. R. Phillips '21 was then sent in, and finished out the game. Erb was also credited with a double and a single in two times at bat.
