AMHERST SHUT OUT 5-0; FELTON GIVING 3 HITS

EMMONS STARS AGAIN

Amherst was shut out, 5-0 by the University baseball team in a well-played game at Soldiers Field yesterday afternoon. W. B. Felton '19 held the Purple batters to three hits, two of which were of the scratch variety, and was given good support by his teammates. The University nine showed a marked improvement in every department of the game, and played a far better brand of ball than they have exhibited in any game this season. The defense of the team was decidedly stiffened, while the Crimson batters touched Zink, Amherst's best pitcher, for a total of eight hits.

R. W. Emmons '20 was again the star of the University hitters with three safeties out of four chances at bat. W. W. McLeod '19, at second base, who made five difficult assists and was not charged with any errors, was the mainstay of the University defense.

Felton Almost Unhittable.

Felton pitched an air-tight game for the University, and gave promise of great value in the important games ahead. Although he was a little wild in the opening innings, he steadied down towards the end of the game, and Amherst was almost helpless.

The University gained an early lead in the third inning, which Amherst was never able to overcome. McLeod walked, advanced to second on Felton's safe bunt. J. E. Knowles '19 laid down another safe bunt and filled the bases. Emmons then hit sharply to left field sending McLeod and Knowles across the plate.
