UNIVERSITY'S FIRST AND SECOND CREWS SELECTED

PENN. RACE IMPOSSIBLE

The University eight, which was selected just before vacation, resumed rowing on the Charles yesterday morning after a week's rest. Intensive preparation is being made for the triangular race with Princeton and Annapolis on April 19, the only contest before the Yale race at New London. Practice will be held at the regular hours today and tomorrow.

Coach Haines may make several changes to obtain the best results for the coming regatta. The eight lined up yesterday as follows: Acting-captain, F. B. Whitman '19, stroke; N. Brazier '18, No. 7; G. L. Batchelder '19, No. 6; R. M. Sedgwick '21, No. 5; D. H. Morris '21, No. 4; J. F. Linder, Jr., '19, No. 3; C. F. Batchelder '20, No. 2; D. Leighton '19, bow; and E. L. Peirson '21, coxswain.

The second crew will probably line up this afternoon in the following order: W. C. Chanler '19, stroke; S. Damon '21, No. 7; F. B. Lothrop '21, No. 6; H. H. Faxon '21, No. 5; J. N. Borland 2nd '21, No. 4; H. R. Atkinson '21, No. 3; R. Jenney '21, No. 2; W. Davis '21, bow; and C. R. Steedman '20, coxswain.

Word has been received that Pennsylvania has declined the University's invitation for a dual regatta on the Charles River on May 3. Difficulty in securing leave from classes for the members of the crew was given as the reason by John A. Brown, chairman of the Penn rowing committee.
