In the record practice shooting at Wakefield over the week-end, the Third Battalion, with an average of 114.4 failed to equal the marks of 119.8 and 119.2 set by the First and Second Battalions, respectively, thus yielding the title of the Regiment to the former. The record of B Company, with 124 average, has also been unsurpassed, although closely approached by both F and H Companies of the Second Battalion, who averaged 122.
Of the companies who shot over Saturday and Sunday, K led, with a score of 116.7. M and L came next, nearly even, while I Company, with 109.1 had considerably the lowest average in the Regiment.
No Military Science 1 men qualified as expert riflemen and only one man in Military Science 2, J. Sise '21, with a total of 172, was able to attain that grade. Nine members of the Battalion were classed as sharpshooters, of whom five were from M Company, J. S. Baker '19 and S. S. Jordan '21 with 156, I. Rosenfield '18 with 155, D. T. W. McCord '21 with 148, and W. G. Swigert '20 with 145. The first two of the above were at the head of the elementary course men at the range last week.
J. C. Burchard '21 of Company D remains the high shot of the entire Regiment.
