CORPS TO BE INSPECTED

NEW OFFICERS NEXT WEEK

It has been announced by the Military Office that a War Department inspector will visit the University on Friday, June 1, for the purpose of inspecting the Reserve Officers' Training Corps. On the report which this inspector will make to Washington depends largely the questions of the Corps official recognition by the Government, and of the granting of commissions to such men as are qualified next August.

On Memorial Day, next Wednesday, the various companies will assemble at 11.30, the battalions forming at 11.40, and the regiment will march to Memorial Hall to attend the services which will be held there. That afternoon the companies will again assemble at 3.30 o'clock and will march by battalions to the Stadium, where there will be a review by General Edwards, the commanding general of the Northeastern Department. The review will be open to the public.

According to the plan adopted by the Military Office, all the lieutenants and noncommissioned officers of each company, possibly excluding the first and supply sergeants, will be demoted at the end of this week, and their places will be filled by men chosen from the ranks. These new men will in turn be removed after two weeks to make room for a third set of appointments, and again a fourth group will hold office from the 1st until the 15th of July. In this manner practically everyone in all the companies will be given an opportunity to act at least in the capacity of a corporal. Before the regiment sets out on its long hike the permanent officers and noncommissioned officers will be selected.

Although this system will disturb the companies every two weeks by breaking up their organization, it will give training that could not be had in any other manner, and will teach the entire body of cadets, instead of a few dozen officers, the work of a responsible position.

The fourth week of the intensive training starts today. Outside of the ceremonies mentioned above, the work will consist of map reading, trench construction, and additional practice on the gallery ranges, in addition to other drills and regular section meetings.
